I know there are some you who might be getting tired of her with all the media exposure she's been getting this year - the critically-acclaimed 'My Week with Marilyn', endless/recycled stories about her life and death, a number of magazine covers (case in point: Vanity Fair's May 2012 issue) and amazingly enough, MM-themed businesses are also slated to come out, proving that these black suits still believe her name can lure in profits up to this day.
But whether you like it or not, these are true testaments that even half a century after her death, the world remains fascinated by her fame, beauty, sex and the vulnerability of her life and mysterious demise.
Now, MAC joins in on the spectacle with its Marilyn Monroe collection. Of course, this is no news since it came out in the States early this month. But for us living on the other end of the globe, this collection just hit stores last Saturday, the 20th of October.
I knew that there was gonna be a long queue for the launch, as with every other collection MAC comes out with. So, I had asked a very reliable person to get a number as soon as the mall opens at 10am so my slot would be guaranteed when they start selling the goodies at three in the afternoon.
But when I got there around 3:15, the host told me I was late and had to fall in line. Damn. Apparently, they started the program an hour earlier!
My first thoughts were: Reliability is a myth! Misinformation kills!
Anyway, I instantly calmed down after noticing that the line was quite short so, I begrudgingly went ahead and queued up.
I'm almost there!! |
I ended up getting five products from the collection: Beauty Powder in Forever Marilyn (P1,600), a couple of lipsticks Pure Zen and Scarlet Ibis (P1,100 each), eyeshadow in How to Marry (P1,250) and the blush in Legendary (P1,430).
Mac describes this beauty powder as a "sheer peach pale highlighter", but if your skin tone is quite fair, you can use this as an all over powder to get that gorgeous, luminous finish.
For me, Marilyn was all about the bright reds on her lips. So, I wanted Scarlet Ibis more than the other shades in the collection that were much deeper and warmer.
Pure Zen is the only non-red lipstick in this range and was truly a stand out for that reason. This is a gorgeous soft pinky beige shade, which was also a part of Mac's Cremesheen + Pearl collection.
I snagged this muted pink-coral blush because I thought it would look really pretty paired with either Pure Zen or Scarlet Ibis. It has a satin finish and looks really lovely swatched on my skin.
How to Marry is a cool-toned white that looks pearly and frosty on the skin.
The complete Marilyn Monroe collection includes:
*Four Large Eyeshadows - How to Marry, Preferred Blonde, Silver Screen and Show Girl
*35 Lash
* False Lashes Extreme Black
*Penultimate Black
*Penultimate Brow
*Eye Kohl - Smolder and Fascinating
*Five Lipsticks - Scarlet Ibis, Pure Zen, Love Goddess, Charmed I'm Sure and Deeply Adored
*Two Dazzleglasses - Little Rock and Phiff!

Although some of the shades in this collection could be duped, I encourage you to go out and get your hands on the MM-themed goodies before its too late!
Ahh! Nice Marilyn haul, love it! Legendary looks awesome on your skin tone. :) I want to get naman The Perfect Cheek, but maybe this one too, it looks so pretty. And other stuff. Hehe. Did everything sell out fast? I'm planning to go to MAC MOA on saturday for the release there.
ReplyDeleteHi Ida! Yes, actually I think Deeply Adored and Love Goddess sold out within an hour or so at the Glorietta launch. I suggest getting a slot as early as possible like when the mall opens at 10am just to be sure. Hehe Get the Beauty Powder it's absolutely divine! :) Goodluck!
